8-oxo-dG
8-Oxo-dG stands for 8-oxo-deoxyguanosine and it consists of an oxidized nucleotide, commonly used to study DNA damage following oxidative stress. In oxidative stress, reactive oxygen species (ROS) damage the DNA, thus creating 8-Oxo-dG “lesions”. 8-Oxo-dGs can create mismatches via pairing with A, thus leading to G ->T transversion. In nature, 8-Oxo-dG does not appear to be highly mutagenic, as the base excision repair system usually restores 8-Oxo-dG to native G.
